Welcome to Southern Connecticut State University and the Office of Academic Affairs. Academic Affairs is comprised of the institution’s five academic schools and colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health and Human Services, and Graduate and Professional Studies.
The university strives to maintain a high standard of excellence in its programs and seeks to instill in its students a desire for continuing self-education and self-development. Each college and school at the university has developed its programs in accordance with the highest national standards of their respective fields. Keeping in mind that exploration is the key to an academic life and the life of a student, we also offer Exploratory Studies and General Studies that span across all colleges, schools, and departments.

Steeped in great educational traditions, the College of Arts and Sciences promotes the study of the liberal arts as a progressive, imaginative, and useful way to understand and participate in our rapidly evolving global society. Through the study of the Literature, History, Philosophy, Languages, the Social/Natural Sciences and the Fine/Performing Arts, the College seeks to cultivate the mind and the imagination.
The College of Arts and Sciences houses twenty academic departments and three interdisciplinary programs which offer a broad range of majors, minors, concentrations, and accreditations. Prospective students interested in becoming teachers will find teaching certification offered in twelve departments. All students will be prepared to be technical, independent, collaborative, creative and insightful citizens beyond the professional environment. The College of Education, accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), is a professional college whose mission is to develop outstanding educators and practitioners. It represents the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) at SCSU.
The College of Education, alone and in partnership with other colleges, offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees that also prepare students for Connecticut teacher certification.
Programs emphasize collaborating within and across diverse contexts, applying skills to impact learning and development, leading for excellence, and learning through inquiry, experience, and reflection. The faculty seek to prepare teachers grounded in practical and theoretical knowledge, who demonstrate the commitment, responsibility, and awareness that promote continuous improvement of the communities in which we all work and live. This mission is reflected in all components of the College's curriculum.
The faculty uphold high standards of excellence in its programs, and aim to develop graduates who are committed to lifelong learning, intellectual honesty, personal integrity, and respect for the rights and freedoms of others. COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

The College of Health and Human Services is comprised of over 25 distinct disciplines housed within departments, along with centers, clinics, and institutes on campus. Our faculty and students partner with our community to achieve health and human services priorities and meet current workforce needs. We accomplish our educational mission through interdisciplinary education, practice-based learning, and student access to outstanding faculty educators.
All undergraduate programs provide a strong liberal arts base as a prerequisite to upper-division professional course work. Students gain a solid foundation for pursuing future graduate study in their particular field. In addition to theory-focused courses our degree programs provide opportunities for practice-based experience in community-based clinical training, practicum, and internships. Students have opportunities to engage in meaningful work with patients and clients while acquiring the skills and values of their profession. Faculty members and students learn together and explore how practice, research, and theory interact as they respond to community health and human service issues. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

The School of Business offers a business major with concentrations in accounting, business economics, finance, human resources management, international business, management, business information systems, marketing, and public utilities management leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. The program builds on a strong foundation in liberal arts and offers an in-depth knowledge in a particular business area. The Business Administration Program prepares students both for graduate study in economics, business administration, or law and for seeking entry-level professional positions in business, industry, and government. In addition, the Department of Economics in the School of Business offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
A student interested in a degree in the School of Business, whether a freshman or a transfer student, should consult a faculty adviser or the dean of the School of Business. In addition, the School of Business offers the M.B.A. degree in business administration.
Students enrolled in other schools or colleges at SCSU are welcome to take business courses provided they meet all prerequisites. However, students from other schools or colleges are allowed to take a maximum of 30 credits of coursework in the School of Business. Exceptions to this policy may be granted only with the written permission by the dean of the School of Business. School of Business academic disciplines include:
