Financial Aid Freeze Date Policy
Southern Connecticut State University uses a “freeze date” each semester and financial aid is based on your registered credit hours as of this date. The financial aid freeze date will align with the third week enrollment census date each semester (see calendar).
Key Freeze Date Guidelines
- Classes added after the freeze date, for any part of term, are not eligible for additional federal or state aid.
- If dropped or withdrawn after the freeze date, your aid will not decrease—unless you withdraw from all courses. In that case, your aid will be prorated based on your withdrawal date (see Treatment of Title IV Aid when a Student Withdraws).
- Financial aid will only pay for courses that are required for your current program; therefore, course substitutions must be approved and processed by the freeze date.
Enrollment Status
As a reminder, loans require half-time eligibility at a minimum, and grants may be prorated or cancelled if below full-time status.
- Full-time requires 12+ eligible credit hours
- Three-quarter time requires 9+ eligible credit hours
- Half-time requires 6+ eligible credit hours
- Quarter-time requires 3+ eligible credit hours
LATE FAFSA SUBMISSIONS
If you submit a FAFSA, a corrected FAFSA, or an Application for Undocumented Student Financial Aid after the freeze date, your aid will be based on your current enrollment at the time of application.
LATE START COURSES
Financial aid award amounts associated with late starting classes will not be disbursed until attendance is confirmed in those classes. Students should plan accordingly with regard to financial aid refunds when enrolled in classes that start at some point after the beginning date of the semester. Financial aid will be reduced if a student fails to begin attendance in all classes.
