Study Abroad
Southern is proud to offer a diverse range of study abroad opportunities, including semester- and year-long programs as well as short-term, faculty-led programs during summer and winter session. Through our global exchange partnerships, students can study at international universities while continuing to pay SCSU tuition and fees.
All courses in a study abroad consortium agreement must receive pre-approval from both the Office of International Education and the Office of Financial Aid to ensure continued financial aid eligibility. Therefore, students should begin planning several months in advance. For more information, contact the Office of International Education (EN A-220), call (203) 392-6756, or visit: www.SouthernCT.edu/oie.
Students participating in semester or year-long programs have the option to waive up to two Explorations general education requirements. However, departmental degree requirements cannot be waived without department approval, and both Natural World science requirements may not be waived.
Grades earned abroad are evaluated according to World Education Services guidelines and are recorded as transfer credits on the Southern transcript:
- A+ to C = T1
- C- = T2
- D+ to D- = T3
- F = T4
Transfer credits do not affect GPA but are noted on the transcript as attempted credit to assess satisfactory academic progress (SAP). Students must submit an official transcript to the Office of International Education within 30 days of the following semester. Failure to do so will result in a failing grade.
