ESC 461 - Glacial Geology

Survey of the fundamental principles of glacial geology with a focus on contemporary issues. Characteristics of glaciers such as their flow mechanics, thermal regimes, and hydrology. The formation of glacial landforms and patterns of sedimentation in recently glaciated settings. Glaciers as records of paleoclimate and environmental change. Laboratory component will involve classroom activities and hand samples. Lecture, 2 hours; Laboratory, 3 hours.

Prerequisite(s): ESC 201 and (ESC 325 or ESC 312).
