Supervised clinical practice in audiology at the Center for Communication Disorders with children and adults who have all degrees of hearing sensitivity. Presents a microscopic review of the financial sectors like Banking and Asset Management, where applications of financial technology have gained prominence and is providing solutions. The course also demonstrates how the financial sector is innovating around financial technology usage and applications. Crypto currencies and Blockchain are also covered and the course ends with a discussion on the future of financial technology.

Provides an introduction to the risks associated with application technology developed at large financial institutions, as well as to internal controls those institutions, as well as to internal controls those institutions implement to remediate business and technology risks. To achieve this objective, the course uses examples of enterprise risk management, trading, operations, and financial reporting systems and introduces students to the following concepts: change management, information security, access, and business continuity controls , as well as corporate IT governance structure and fraud detection practices.

Students are required to submit a capstone project. For the capstone project, students are expected to compile the market, credit and liquidity risk assessments in prior classes, and submit a comprehensive risk assessment of the bank that they chose for their term projects. Provides students in the MS in Integrative Biological Diversity the opportunity to implement the management proposal developed in IBD 505 Stewardship Seminar. Students will contribute to the monitoring and conservation priority of an organism of interest.

The fungal kingdom includes an estimated 1.5 million species, with the majority still undescribed. Fungi are found in every known ecosystem, acting as decomposers, mutualists, commensals, and pathogens. They have evolved numerous adaptations for growth in extreme environments. In human health, some fungi are sources of antibiotic discovery, while others are causes of allergies and disease. Invasive fungi may lower diversity of plant or animal species, even threatening some with extinction. Thus, understanding fungal biodiversity is critical for understanding ecosystem functioning and conservation.

Covers the foundation and skills required to approach policy development for issues related to biodiversity protection. Classes will address the history of biodiversity policy efforts, the levels at which policy can be considered, the stakeholders related to policy, and tactics to successfully communicate and execute biodiversity policy plans. The course will be driven by selected readings and comprise discussion and hands-on activities such as exploring case studies and in-class debates. Students will produce a public policy white paper on a topic of their choice and execute two science policy actions. Some class meetings may include guest speakers involved with biodiversity policy.

Interactions between plants and animals are complex and diverse, spanning antagonism, commensalism, and symbiosis. These interactions have evolved over millions of years and fill essential roles in the ecosystem. This course will apply coevolutionary theory to understand the origin of plant animal interactions. The ecology of interactions such as pollination, herbivory, and seed dispersal will be considered from the perspective of both the plant and animal. The course will explore how these relationships are challenged by climate change and habitat loss.

All organisms have a unique history that can be explained by studying their complex interaction with the environment. While the focus of ecology was largely restricted to explain this interaction, little attention was paid to their shared evolutionary histories. Luckily, an integration between these two disciplines has begun recently. However, modern methods in ecology and evolution require basic knowledge and skills in command-line. Hence, this course aims to teach graduate students from our master’s program the basic theory and general computational and data skills to analyze data at different levels: population, species, and community. Specifically, this course will aim to introduce the students to work with basic Unix command-line, searching with regular expressions, analyze data with basic R packages and/or python scripts. This course will make emphasis on biological sequence (DNA), ecological and geographic data (localities with coordinates) analyses and its applications.

This advanced lecture course examines the molecular mechanisms underlying prokaryotic biology. Emphasis will be on pathogenic bacteria.

Covers the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of streams and rivers, including an integrated study of the environmental factors affecting the composition and distribution of biota. The role of streams and their biota in ecosystem processes will be emphasized. The laboratory will provide experience in field and lab techniques used in the study of streams.

Teaching and learning theories are examined as they apply to adult and higher education. Components of the psychology of learning are analyzed. Cultural, racial, gender and generational dynamics are discussed.

The various leadership roles in academic nursing are examined. Classic and contemporary leadership and management theories and research in academic administration are used as a basis to discuss the leadership challenges and opportunities inherent in faculty and in administrative roles such as academic program administrator, department chairperson, director, or dean. This synthesis experience provides multiple opportunities for doctoral students to explore, analyze and actualize the multiple roles of nurse faculty in a guided/mentored practicum. Introduces students to the clinical reasoning skills for selecting and implementing effective interventions in occupational therapy and to the approaches of “top-down,” "bottom-up,” and trauma informed care. The development of the laws of physics in mathematical form. The application of these laws to physical problems and a discussion of the mathematical methods employed.

Provides a highly interdisciplinary introduction to the science of nanoscale materials (nanoscience). Topics will include historical background, characterization techniques, physics and chemistry of nanoscience materials, fabrication techniques, nanoscale applications and ethical/societal considerations.

Introduces the state-of-the-art techniques commonly used in the characterization of nanomaterials. Two important aspects of characterization, imaging and chemical analysis, are included. Emphasizes force, transmission and scanning electron microscopy.

The capstone experience for the Graduate Certificate in Nanotechnology. Students chose an appropriate topic in nanotechnology in consultation with the instructor, perform a literature search, design the experiments and perform the data collection and analyses, write up the project following the style of a professional journal article, and present their results to their peers and instructor in the format of a formal scientific presentation.

Provides the student with a basic understanding of the scientific principles associated with optics and optical image formation, as well as image capture, processing and analysis. An end-to-end treatment of the imaging system is employed to illustrate the inter-relationships of the concepts introduced. The student will become familiar with systems analyses of simple imaging systems and image analysis methods.

The interference of light is discussed in detail. Applications to high-resolution imaging and precision measurement are covered, including techniques such as electronic speckle pattern interferometry, long baseline optical interferometry and related techniques. The student will become familiar with the basic performance metrics and main types of interferometers in use today.

The student will conduct a research project in physics either on campus or in the context of an internship with a local company. The special project may either be a technological special project or an entrepreneurial special project.
